Introduction
Mercy Ngozi Alu Ph.D, is an Author, Scholar, Songwriter, Singer and Award Winning Recording Artist from Nigeria, West Africa. She sings Gospel and inspirational Afro-pop, in the World Music Category. On September 21, 2020, the UN international day of peace, Mercy was announced as a Peace Song Awards Winner in the World Music Category, at the 4th Annual Peace Song Awards with her song "African Queen". The United Nations first brought worldwide attention to PPOE (the Global Peace Song Awards project) in 2011 for an image considered one of the most iconic in the history of the UN; its famed 2011 Picasso Peace Dove / Love All image in Jericho which was esteemed as one of the 49 most iconic images (out of 800,000 photos) in the history of the UN. Many World class expert producers, artists, speakers, peace activists and celebrities served on the Peace Song Awards Jury Panel and/or Advisory Panel, in selecting the finalists and winners of the global award.

Mercy also chairs the research and grants department of the IAAAS, the International Association of African Authors and Scholars, dedicated to getting the voices of writers heard and promoting literacy, capacity building, and education. She has contributed a lot towards the development of youth music talent in Nigeria and Ghana, where she does most of her musical recordings and collaborates with artists from across the continent, including South Africa. Due to her humble beginnings, she understands the struggles against poverty and other global challenges endemic on the African continent. Mercy started contributing positively with her talents from a young age. She recorded an original soundtrack with Michael Day and Rena Jones (Later Day) from the American R & B Band “Champaign”, which she performed at the America’s National Teenager Pageant, 1995, as a teenage U.S immigrant with dual U.S and Nigerian Citizenship.
Mercy was awarded the title of Miss Congeniality and the Leadership/Citizenship Award by the America’s National Teenager Scholarship Organization formerly headquartered in Dallas TX, under then National Director, Cheryl Snow. In 2001, Matt Dietrich of the State Journal Register, Springfield, Illinois, in a full page article on Mercy’s “Jewels of Africa”, called her an “African Blessing”, and stated that her music is inspired by her love for culture, humanity, history, and her experiences in her humble beginnings. The Indiana Gazette, out of Indiana Pennsylvania where she studied as an undergraduate, featured an article describing her music as “unique”, considering its African elements.
Mercy was hosted by Rita Rochelle, former host for the Voice of America program, in Washington D.C, as many of her songs from her album “Jewels of Africa” were aired in 23 countries. Her albums include “Chidimma” (Elite Platinum Entertainment Lagos), “Ezigbo m” (Sambaz Records, Alaba, Onitsha), “Together” (TATE Records). Her singles include, “African Queen”, “Sunshine”, “My Number One” while her EP’s include “Have it your way”. Collaborations include “Hallelujah” with Ghanaian Artist Magic Rocker, “Jewels Of Africa” with Jamaican Erika Newell of the Wailers. Other collaborations include: songwriting/arrangement with: Nigerian pop star/producer Alex O. Okoroigwe, Award winning Nigerian producer Oga Otumala, Grammy Award winning Jimmy “Slam” Jones co-producer of "St Vincent" Best Alternative Album 57th Grammy Awards 2015, Ghanaian Producer Ben Osafo of UNITTY Entertainment Chicago.
Focus Area
Ambassador Alu joined Globcal International during the pandemic, so she officially begins her first year as a goodwill ambassador for the SDGs in June of 2021. Her assignment is with the Sustainable Development Goals and UNESCO World Heritage Site Initiatives in Western and Central Africa.
